Jürgen Ehle (Admiral)

Jürgen Ehle (born August 21, 1957 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German flotilla admiral and since September 1, 2019 Senior Military Advisor to Managing Director for CSDP and Crisis Response (MD CSDP-CR) at the European External Action Service (European External Action Service ) Service - EEAS) in Brussels .

Military career

Ehle joined the German Armed Forces as an officer candidate in 1976 . After training as a naval officer , Crew VII / 76 (including sailing school ship Gorch Fock and school ship Germany ), he completed a pedagogy course (minor in law) at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg (Helmut Schmidt University) from 1977 to 1980 , which he graduated as a qualified teacher.

After completing his training as a helicopter pilot in the USA and Germany (1980–1983), he was an operational pilot and training officer on board helicopter “ Sea LynxMK 88 ” with the Naval Aviation Squadron 3 “Graf Zeppelin” in Nordholz. This was followed by various assignments in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn - among other things as office manager of the Deputy Inspector of the Navy and Chief of Staff of the Naval Staff , after completing admiral staff training at the Armed Forces Leadership Academy in Hamburg (1992-1994).

From 1996 to 1997 Ehle made the US admiralty staff training in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, studying at the US Naval War College . In 1997 and 1998 he was entrusted with the command and coordination of the naval air forces of the German Navy at Flottenkommando Glücksburg , before he became a commodore of Naval Aviation Squadron 3 “Graf Zeppelin” in Nordholz after acquiring a pilot's license for the “ Dornier 228 ”.

Ehle moved to the NATO headquarters in Brussels in 2002 . There he first became Head of Strategic Planning and Capability Adjustment of NATO at the Representative of the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in Europe (SACTREPEUR) and in 2004 Deputy Chief of Staff at the Representative of the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in Europe (SACTREPEUR).

This was followed by a further assignment at the NATO headquarters as German military representative MC NATO and EU as well as head of the security and military policy department (2005-2007). In 2007 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin, initially as Head of Division in the Armed Forces and European Commissioner BMVg (Fü S III 4) and later (2012) as Head of Division in the Strategy and Operations Department (SE II 5).

In 2012 his career took him back to Brussels, as German Military Representative MC NATO and EU Deputy DMV and Chief of Staff at NATO headquarters. From 2013 to 2015 Jürgen Ehle was Chairman of the Working Group of the Military Committee of the European Union in Brussels and in 2015 became Head of the Military Policy Department at the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union .

Since 2019 he has been Senior Military Advisor to Managing Director for CSDP and Crisis Response (MD CSDP-CR) at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
