Jürgen Engel (diplomat)

Jürgen Engel (born June 25, 1946 in Bensberg ) is a German diplomat . From 2007 to 2011 he was ambassador to the German embassy in Kingston , Jamaica . He is married and has two children.

Life

After attending a university of applied sciences for economics, Engel began training for the senior civil service in the Foreign Office in Bonn in 1965 , where he worked until 1970. Between 1970 and 1984 he worked at the embassies in Accra , Buenos Aires , Hanoi and San Salvador , at the latter two as deputy ambassador. In 1984 he began training in the higher diplomatic service and then worked in Bonn until 1989, where he returned after three years of service in Lima . From 1994 to 1998 he was Deputy Ambassador to Guatemala City . Until 2001 he was employed as deputy head of department in the Federal Foreign Office before he went again as deputy ambassador to San Salvador. From 2004 to 2005 he headed the German liaison office for Kosovo in Pristina . He then became Deputy Ambassador to Colombia . From 2007 to 2011 Engel was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kingston, Jamaica.
