Jürgen Natter

Jürgen Natter (* 1981 in Feldkirch , Austria ) is an Austrian organist , harpsichord player and conductor .

Life

His first teachers were Walfried Kraher and Helmut Binder. At the Vorarlberg State Conservatory he had lessons with Günter Fetz and Elisabeth Zawadke . He also studied piano , harpsichord and conducting . In 2003, while still a student, he won first prize and the audience prize at the Laurentius von Schnüffis organ improvisation competition . In 1998 and 2003 he also received scholarships for gifted students from the state of Vorarlberg .

In 2006 he finished his concert studies at the Music Academy of the City of Basel (interpretation class Guy Bovet , improvisation at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Rudolf Lutz ) with the concert diploma. The first performance of the Toccata Perpetuum mobile (for three organists on one organ), a composition by his compatriot Michael Floredo (* 1967), was given in the diploma concert in the Pauluskirche in Basel . Inspired by this preliminary study, Floredo created his organ symphony St. Florian , which was premiered in 2010 at the Bruckner Festival in the Augustinian Canons of St. Florian by Matthias Maierhofer, Johannes Trümpler and Jürgen Natter - under the direction of Matthias Giesen .

Natter performs a lively concert activity as a soloist, improviser and accompanist for choirs and soloists all over Europe. He worked with conductors such as Manfred Honeck , William Lacey and Andreas Spering , among others . Natter played as a soloist on the Bruckner organ in St. Florian Monastery , the organ of the Marienkirche Lübeck , the Hildebrandt organ in the parish church of St. Wenzel in Naumburg and the organ of St. Gumbertus in Ansbach . Natter also played at the Bregenz Festival , at the Magadino Organ Festival, at the Weimar Organ Summer and in the ORF Radiokulturhaus in Vienna . He went on several reading trips together with the writer Robert Schneider . Natter accompanies the author's readings from the novels Schlafes Bruder and The Revelation with improvisations on the organ.

Karl Richter's Bach recordings were formative for him in his early years - they gave him the first, decisive auditory impression of Johann Sebastian Bach's music , and subsequently also the art of phrasing in the music.

In 2008 he founded the “Rheintaler Bach-Orchester” and in 2011 the “Altacher Orgelsoireen” concert series (4–5 concerts per year in the Altach parish church ). There is general recognition not only for the high musical quality, but also for the impressive, innovative programming.
