Jürgen Rode

Jürgen Rode (* 1949 in Magdeburg ) is a German sports educator , sports development planner and university teacher .

Life

Rode studied sport and geography for teaching at the Potsdam University of Education between 1969 and 1972. From 1976 he was a research assistant at the Magdeburg University of Education . There, in 1979, his doctoral thesis on the subject of "The training of physical abilities and movement skills in the process of athletics-based basic physical training in the 9th and 10th grades" was accepted. It was also there that he completed his dissertation B in 1986 . The title of the habilitation thesis was "Viewpoints and proposals for a more precise curriculum for the subject of sport in the general polytechnic secondary school of the German Democratic Republic (upper level)". He then continued to work at the Potsdam University of Education and, from 1991, after the integration of the university, at the University of Potsdam . In 1994 he took up a professorship for sports education there, which he held until 2015. Between 1996 and 1999 Rode was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty II, and from 1999 to 2007 he was Vice-Rector for Development, Finance and Human Resources at the University of Potsdam.

His academic fields of activity included, in particular, physical education, the health promotion of students and employees at the University of Potsdam, and the investigation of exercise opportunities for working people. From 2000, he headed scientific projects on sports development planning such as the creation of sports development plans for the city of Potsdam in 2000 and 2001, the Havelland district , the Teltow-Fläming district , the Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf community (2008), the city of Oranienburg (2015 ), the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf (2016) and the development of recommendations for sport development in the community of Hoppegarten .

Rode was a visiting professor in sports management at the University of Applied Sciences for Sport and Management Potsdam (FHSMP), where he was awarded the honorary title of "Senior Professor" in October 2016. He is the chairman of the Institute for Municipal Sports Development Planning (INSPO), which was founded in November 2014.
