Jürgen Schröder (Germanist)

Jürgen Schröder (born May 3, 1935 in Woldenberg ) is Full Professor Emeritus for Modern German Literature at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Life

After a doctorate (1961) and habilitation (1969) at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , Jürgen Schröder was appointed to the chair of Modern German Literature at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen in 1974 as successor to Klaus Ziegler . He held this position until his retirement in 2001. Schröder has held visiting professorships at Washington University in St. Louis / USA, the University of Massachusetts in Amherst / USA, the University of Western Australia in Perth / Australia and the University of Washington in Seattle / USA. Schröder is best known for his studies on Gottfried Benn , whose most important correspondence he edited, on Heinrich von Kleist , Georg Büchner , Gotthold Ephraim Lessing , Robert Musil , Ödön von Horváth and Max Frisch , on German historical drama, and German-language drama after 1945 and on the subject of Germany poems.
