With the Jabach Medal , the city of Cologne honors personalities who have rendered exceptional services to the Cologne museums.

The Foundation of the coin was made in 1966 by the Council of the City of Cologne in memory of the collector and patron of Cologne Eberhard Jabach from the Cologne family dynasty Jabach . It is not endowed and is awarded at irregular intervals.

The mayor and the culture committee of the city of Cologne are entitled to make nominations for the award of the medal . The decision is made by a commission consisting of the mayor, the chairman of the cultural committee, the honorary mayors, the head of culture and the director of the museum involved.

The medal is made of silver, 80 mm in diameter, with the portrait of Eberhard Jabach on the front and the Cologne coat of arms with the inscription MAECENATIBUS GRATA CIVITAS COLONIENSIS on the back . It was designed by Hans Karl Burgeff in 1966 .
