Jacinta Correia da Costa

Jacinta Correia da Costa (born January 10, 1973 in Baucau , Portuguese Timor ) is a lawyer from East Timor . Since 2003 she has been a judge at the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste , the highest court in East Timor.

Career

Costa was a member of the Cout of Appeal , the appeals court of the Special Panels for Serious Crimes (SPSC), a special chamber of the Dilis District Court , which in the period of the United Nations Interim Administration for East Timor (UNTAET) until 2005 committed serious crimes during the crisis in East Timor in 1999 pursued. In May 2001, Costa was released as a member of the independent electoral commission for the 2001 Constituent Assembly elections, limited to four months . She then returned to the Dili District Court. In late August 2002, Costa went on maternity leave.

In 2003, Costa was appointed judge of the newly established Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste together with court president Cláudio de Jesus Ximenes . At the same time, Costa was already a leading member of the human rights organization HAK Association .

In 2007, Costa completed a Legal Training Center of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), completing two and a half years of post-graduate training that is compulsory for all judges, state lawyers and lawyers. On January 23, 2012, she became the first Judge Secretary of the East Timor’s Supreme Council of Justice, the country’s supreme oversight body for justice.
