biography
Jack Chesbro started his career in the minor leagues. He got off to a sluggish start, however, as he was repeatedly under contract with teams that had to stop playing in the middle of the season. Only when he switched to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1899 was this to change. Celebrity reached the Spitball - Pitcher in the seasons 1901 and 1902 , when he associated with the Pirates each National League won. In 1903 he moved to the New York Highlanders .
The 1904 season was the absolute highlight of his career. He won 41 games, 48 of his 51 starts were complete games, 30 of them even in sequence at the beginning of the season. However, a wild pitch of his against the Boston Pilgrims prevented the possible win of the championship on October 10, 1904.
In the 1909 season he moved to Boston and ended his career in the major league. Despite serving only twelve years in the Major Leagues, nine of which as a regular start thrower, his stats were so impressive that he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946 .
