The 1902 MLB season was the second season of the modern era of Major League Baseball (MLB).
After finishing fourth in the previous year, the Philadelphia Athletics won the title for the first time in the second year of the American League . Last year's winner, the Chicago White Stockings , only came fourth. Compared to the previous season, the Cleveland Bluebirds were renamed, and now appeared as the Cleveland Broncos .
In the National League , the Pittsburgh Pirates were able to defend their title more than confidently and won the league by a large margin of 27½ games over the Brooklyn Superbas .
Since the World Series , in which the AL and NL winners meet, was not introduced until the following year, there was still no MLB champion in 1902. As in the previous year, the statistically best team across all leagues was the Pirates from the National League.
