The 1906 MLB season was the fifth season of Major League Baseball (MLB). For the first time both affiliated leagues were won by teams from the same city, namely Chicago .
The American League (AL) winners were the Chicago White Sox , three games ahead of the New York Highlanders . The National League (NL) was dominated by the Chicago Cubs , who set up a record for a regular season that is still valid today with 116 wins and only 36 defeats and a win rate of 76.3% . At the end of the season, the Cubs had 20 games ahead of last year's winner New York Giants . Due to the dominant season, the Cubs were the big favorites in the 1906 World Series , but surprisingly lost 2: 4 games against the White Sox.
