Jakob Adlung
Jakob Adlung , also Adelung, Aldung (born January 14, 1699 in Bindersleben near Erfurt ; † July 5, 1762 there ) was a German organist , composer , music writer and instrument maker .
Life
Adlung was the son of an organist and school clerk, received his musical and scientific training in Erfurt and studied philology and theology in Jena from 1723 . He returned to Erfurt as a master's degree and in 1727 accepted the position of organist at the Predigerkirche . Adlung also worked as a piano maker. In addition to his position as organist in 1741, he taught in addition to the Ratsgymnasium in Erfurt and at the local university . From 1755 he was a member of the Academy of Useful Sciences in Erfurt.
Jakob Adlungs's writings are very informative for the history of music, especially during the Bach era. His encyclopedia of organ science Musica mechanica organoedi (begun in 1726) is one of the most important sources for organ building in the Baroque period. As a composer he mainly wrote pieces of music for the organ.
