Jacob Joussen

Jacob Joussen (* 1971 in Duisburg ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

Joussen was born in 1971 as the son of Peter Joussen (1933–2014), a lawyer at Thyssen AG (later Thyssen Industrie) and his wife Elma, née. Flug was born in Duisburg and has three siblings, including the manager Friedrich Joussen .

In 1990 he graduated from the Landfermann-Gymnasium in Duisburg. From 1990 to 1992 he studied Latin, Roman Catholic theology and history at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1993 he switched to studying law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1999 to 2001 he completed his legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Bochum .

From 2006 to 2010 Joussen was a university professor at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . As a university lecturer, Joussen has been teaching at the Ruhr University Bochum since 2010, with a focus on secular and ecclesiastical labor law and social law. In 2018 he turned down an offer at the University of Potsdam. As a presbyter with a focus on human resources as well as theology and liturgy, Joussen is a member of a Protestant church to which he has converted from the Roman Catholic Church. On November 9, 2015, Joussen was elected to the EKD Council for six years . From there he is a member u. a. in the supervisory board of the EWDE (Evangelical Work for Diakonie and Development), in the contact discussion group between the EKD and the Catholic Bishops' Conference, the European Commission and the Advisory Board of the Department for Equal Opportunities of the EKD.

Since August 1, 2018, Joussen has been the founding director of the “Institute for Church Labor Law” at the Ruhr University in Bochum, which is unique in Germany.

Joussen is (partnered since 2013) married to the journalist Frank Vollmer, who works as a political editor at the Rheinische Post , and lives with him in Düsseldorf .
