Jacob Leopold Pach (* 14. November 1711 in Erlach , Upper Austria , † thirtieth September 1791 in Kremsmünster , Upper Austria) was the last abbot of the pin Kleinmariazell .

Life

Jacob Pach was born in Erlach in the Hausruckviertel (parish Kallham) as the son of the innkeeper of the Erlach Castle , Paul Pach, and his wife Barbara Haydinger. He was baptized in the name of Leopold Sigismund Laurentius . As an only child, he was given the opportunity to complete his humanistic studies in Passau and to study philosophy in Linz . Then he began to study theology in Salzburg . He was accepted into the novitiate of the Kremsmünster Monastery on November 7, 1733 as Brother Jacobus . He made his profession on November 8, 1734 . He was then sent to Salzburg, where he completed his theology studies and from 1737 also studied mathematics and civil architecture. Two years later he was ordained a priest. His first Mass he celebrated on January 1, 1740. 1741, he was appointed in-house educational establishment for the professor of philosophy in which he held until 1745 logic , physics and metaphysics taught. Between 1745 and 1747 he worked as a rain of Knights Academy and a professor of moral theology, 1747 was on vacation in Adlwang and 1748-1752 Spiritual in the Benedictine monastery Niederburg Passau.

On October 8, 1752 has been prepared by Klein-Mariazell Convention abbot and on 15 October 1752 by the Viennese Auxiliary Bishop Francis X. Anton Marxer benediziert . He pursued his goals very consistently, but with exaggerated stubbornness, which led to numerous conflicts with his monks. This procedure saved the monastery from financial ruin. He disregarded numerous ordinances in matters of state church law . He made great contributions to the continued existence of the monastery - he reduced the debt burden, promoted monastic discipline, renovated the monastery buildings and made the collegiate church Baroque - but there were frequent conflicts within the monastery community. He paid great attention to the Benedictine hospitality towards guests. At the end of his reign - after all, he was around 70 years old and his health was bad - he probably no longer had the strength to pay attention to the discipline in the Convention. His penchant for business made him increasingly neglect the spiritual direction of the community.

After Kleinmariazell Abbey was abolished relatively early on November 5, 1782, Pach stayed in Melk Abbey until January 1786 . He then returned to his professed monastery in Kremsmünster, where he died on September 30, 1791. His skull is in the cemetery chapel of the parish cemetery in Kremsmünster.
