Jacques Pitteloud

Jacques Pitteloud (born November 12, 1962 in Sion ) is a Swiss diplomat and former head of the secret service.

Life

Jacques Pitteloud studied law and received his doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1989 . Pitteloud joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1988 . He was appointed Intelligence Coordinator in 2000. In 2010 he was involved in the plans to free the Swiss Gaddafi hostages in Tripoli .

Pitteloud was the Swiss ambassador to Kenya from 2010 to 2015 . He was then appointed Director of Resources at the EDA. He has been the Swiss ambassador to Washington since September 2, 2019 .

In 2016, the Federal Prosecutor's Office was authorized by the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) to investigate Pitteloud for attempted coercion. These investigations are related to the Anglo-Leasing corruption scandal in Kenya, when several members of the Kenyan government had to resign in 2006. He was acquitted of this charge by the federal court in 2018.

Pitteloud is married to a Rwandan woman who belongs to the Tutsi .
