Act

Fridays for Future (Germany)

Jakob Blasel is active in various ways for the Fridays for Future movement. According to Greenpeace, Jakob Blasel and his colleagues succeeded in mobilizing 500 participants for the demonstration in Kiel on December 14, 2018, the first nationwide climate strike day organized by Fridays for Future (200 more than in Berlin on that day). Jakob Blasel was elected as a delegate of the Kiel local group. He thus represents the local group's positions in the nationwide and international exchange of the Fridays for Future movement.

Blasel appears on talk shows and regularly gives interviews to various media. He acted as a companion to Greta Thunberg during the ceremony to award the Golden Camera on March 30, 2019, when Greta Thunberg was awarded the special prize for climate protection in Berlin.

Engagement outside of FFF

Jakob Blasel was one of the initiators of the 19th annual conference of the Council for Sustainable Development , which took place on June 4, 2019 in the Berlin Congress Center . He also gave a speech at the state party conference of the Greens Schleswig-Holstein , which took place on March 23 and 24, 2019, as a representative of Fridays for Future. Since April 8, 2019, he has also been moderating the Divimove- produced “OZON” Instagram format, which is about sustainability and environmental protection , together with Pia Kraftfutter and Fabian Grischkat . This is part of the online media offer funk of ARD and ZDF .

Positions

In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Jakob Blasel summarized his demands on politics:

“We demand that the 1.5 degree target of Paris be met , otherwise we will not have a future worth living in. I therefore demand that coal-fired power plants be switched off immediately and that coal-fired power generation end by 2030 at the latest. In this way, Germany could meet global climate targets. […] Of course, I would like to see a socially acceptable exit from coal. Then the federal government has to support the affected regions and people financially in favor of climate protection . "

After the World Climate Strike Day on March 15th with more than a million school strikers worldwide, Jakob Blasel asks himself the following questions, according to Bento.de :

  • Will students join a teenage movement?
  • What about other potential allies?
  • What happens when schoolchildren meet students who are eager to discuss, experienced scientists or tried and tested activists?
  • In short: where is the climate strike movement supposed to develop?

With regard to the European elections , which took place in Germany on May 26, 2019, Blasel came to the conclusion, according to the conversation with bento: "So far there is not a single party in Europe whose program is sufficient to stop climate change." Changing that is one of the goals of FFF.

Blasel defends the school strike method with the argument: " School strikes are forbidden, but effective." The climate is more important for Blasel's future than "a maximum high school diploma". His parents would also see "the little absence from class" "much more relaxed", "as long as the grades are reasonably correct". Blasel said in March 2019 that his willingness to go on a climate strike would not go so far that he would miss high school exams in order to be able to strike on every day of action.
