Jakob Bording the Younger (born January 27, 1547 in Hamburg ; † February 21, 1616 in Lübeck ) was professor of feudal law at the University of Rostock , chancellor of the Duke of Mecklenburg, advisor to the Danish kings and afterwards mayor of Lübeck .

Life

Bording was born as the son of the Flemish doctor Jacob (Nikolaus) Bording, who was temporarily active in Hamburg . The father later became a professor at the University of Rostock and rector of the University of Copenhagen and personal physician to the King of Denmark.

Jakob Bording the Younger studied law in Paris, Heidelberg (around 1570), Leipzig and Rostock, where he graduated in 1574 as a licentiate in law and became an associate professor of feudal law. At the same time he became the council of the dukes Johann Albrecht I and Ulrich von Mecklenburg-Güstrow . 1579 doctorate he became Dr. iur. at the University of Rostock. He accompanied Duke Ulrich in 1582 to the Reichstag in Augsburg , where he was Emperor Rudolf II. For Palatine rose. Duke Ulrich's son-in-law, King Frederick II of Denmark, and later his successor, King Christian IV of Denmark , also took his advice. Bording rose to become Chancellor of Mecklenburg in 1586. After resigning from Mecklenburg's service in 1598, he moved to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in 1600 and was immediately elected to the council and mayor of the city. 1604 (together with the councilors Hermann von Dorne (politician, 1568) and Mattheus Kossen ) and 1610 he represented the city as envoy to King Christian IV in Copenhagen. The council gave him the Strecknitz estate as a benefice .

His funeral speech was written by the rector of the Katharineum, Johann Kirchmann . He was buried in the Marienkirche .
