Jakob Flach
Jakob Flach (born March 26, 1894 in Winterthur , Canton of Zurich ; † September 30, 1982 in Locarno , Canton of Ticino ) was a Swiss writer , puppeteer and painter .
Life
Jakob Flach was the son of a trade unionist and social democratic politician who was involved in the cooperative movement . He spent his youth in Winterthur and was an active member of the Wandervogel movement from 1910 to 1919 . He began studying botany and geology at the ETH Zurich , which he broke off in 1917; afterwards he studied pedagogy at the University of Zurich and received the patent as a primary school teacher in 1919 , but did not practice the teaching profession. He moved to Arcegno in Ticino , where he worked as a painter and writer. In addition, he undertook extensive trips and hikes in Europe, the Middle East , India and Africa. Flach was connected to the artists of Monte Verità ; he was u. a. friends with Hermann Hesse .
After he had been the caretaker of Emil Ludwig's villa in 1921/22 , Flach lived in an old mill near Arcegno from 1925 . From 1928 he worked as a director at the Swiss Marionette Theater in Zurich. In 1937 he was a co-founder of the "Asconeser Artists' Marionette Theater", which he directed for 24 years and for which he wrote a large number of puppet shows . In 1959 he was a co-founder of the Swiss Association for Puppetry (SVfP). Flach also made a name for himself as a manufacturer of marionettes .
Jakob Flax's literary work includes, in addition to puppet shows, novels, short stories and the cookbook Minestra . He was from the Canton of Zurich and in 1959 by the city of Winterthur with a Ehrengabe excellent.
