Jakob Friedrich of the East

Jakob Friedrich von der Osten (born August 10, 1717 , † March 5, 1796 ) was a Danish lieutenant general and chief of the Oldenburg infantry regiment.

Life

He became a cadet in the Danish Army on June 16, 1729. On February 27, 1736 he was made a lieutenant in the 2nd Drontheim National Infantry Regiment. On April 11, 1740 he was transferred to the grenadier corps. He became Second Lieutenant on May 5, 1740 and Premier Lieutenant on September 11, 1744. On March 31, 1751 he received the character of a captain of the army and on April 26, 1752 the character of a captain of the grenadier corps. On August 15, 1753 he was appointed real captain. He received on December 2, 1762 the character of a lieutenant colonel.

A little later on September 24, 1768 he was transferred to the Jutland Infantry Regiment. On September 4, 1772 he was transferred to the Nordenfjeldsk Infantry Regiment with the character of a colonel. On July 1, 1774 he became a colonel and chief of the Oldenburg infantry regiment. He was appointed major general on December 6, 1780. On May 12, 1784 he became interim commander of Copenhagen , but he had to leave his regiment. On January 7, 1785 he was released as lieutenant general with a pension. On January 5, 1790, his pension was converted into a waiting allowance of 1,800 thalers a year.

His parents were Colonel Otto Friedrich von der Osten and his wife Margrethe Vibe, daughter of the deputy governor of Norway Johan Vibe (1637-1710) . His brother Johan Vibe von der Osten (1708-1800) was also a major general and commander in Norway .

He was married several times. On March 7, 1744 he married Ulrike Eleonore Frölich (* August 5, 1722; † November 14, 1748) daughter of Lieutenant General Johann Frederik Frölich (1681–1757) and his wife Hilleborg Wittborg (Wettberg) . After her death he married Sophie Eleonore von Witzleben (1727–1756) in Vemmetofte on December 18, 1752 . Then he married on February 27, 1761 Countess Emilie Charlotte Louise von Holstein (* April 24, 1737; † December 2, 1782) daughter of Count Christian Detlev von Holstein-Holsteinborg (* March 6, 1707; † May 20, 1760) and Katharina Elisabeth von Holstein (born August 30, 1712 - † March 8, 1750).
