Jakob Schmitt (born October 5, 1865 in Fritzdorf , † October 19, 1930 in Düsseldorf ) was a German theologian and politician ( center ).

Life

After attending the middle school in Ahrweiler and graduating from high school in Düren , Schmitt studied Roman Catholic theology for three years at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . During his studies he was a member of the 1887 KDStV Ripuaria Bonn in CV . Following his time in Bonn, he completed the seminary in Cologne , where he was ordained priest in 1891. He worked for five years as a chaplain at the Church of St. Joseph in Oberbilk , then continued his educational career and studied theology and philosophy in Rome from 1896 to 1898 . He was also awarded a Dr. theol. et phil. PhD .

Following his studies, Schmitt worked for one year as a chaplain in Angermund and then for five years as a chaplain at the parish church of St. Maximilian in Carlstadt . In October 1905 he became an institutional pastor and pastor at Derendorf prison , which he had been director since October 1917. He was also President of the Düsseldorf Penal Service. In addition to his professional activity, from 1898 he acted as chairman of the board of trustees of the Catholic workers' association St. Paulus-Haus . In addition, from 1898 to 1905 he was President of the Catholic workers' associations for the Düsseldorf city and country district.

Schmitt joined the Center Party and was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives from June 16, 1908 to November 15, 1918 . From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian State Constitutional Assembly . In February 1921 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged without interruption until the end of the second legislative period in 1928. In parliament he represented constituency 22 (Düsseldorf-Ost).
