Jakob Wallenius
Jakob Wallenius (born December 13, 1761 in Vittinge , Heby parish , Sweden ; † January 3, 1819 in Patzig ) was a Swedish - German Evangelical Lutheran theologian , university professor and librarian .
Life
Wallenius attended the Cathedral School from 1773 and then Uppsala University , where he passed the First Theological Examination in 1781. After the death of his father in 1783 he came to Swedish Pomerania and graduated from the University of Greifswald with a master's degree . In 1785 he became a private lecturer for Greek language and literature and in 1786 sub-librarian at the University Library of Greifswald . In this capacity he created the real, nominal and repository catalogs of the library until 1796. He had already worked at the council library in Stralsund before that.
From 1793 he also worked as a Swedish teacher and was a member of the Society of German Language and Literature Researchers; In 1794 he became a member of the Uppsala Historical Society.
In 1795 he was appointed Swedish teacher to Princess Luise Charlotte of Mecklenburg , whose marriage to the Swedish King Gustav IV Adolf was planned. However, the engagement ended in 1796.
In the same year he became professor of German style, aesthetics, latinism and the oriental languages at the University of Greifswald. In 1806 he was appointed Dr. theol. hc by the Theological Faculty of the University of Rostock . During the Fourth Coalition War he was a preacher in the Swedish field hospital in Greifswald for a short time. He did not return to the University of Greifswald, but was pastor of St. Margarethen Church in Patzig on Rügen from 1810 until his death .
Wallenius wrote theological, philosophical and literary-historical treatises in Swedish and Latin. He worked on the German-Swedish and Swedish-German dictionary , which appeared in two volumes in 1785 and 1790. In Patzig he worked on a memorabilia book about the church and the parishes. He left an autobiography and a handwritten list of writings.
Wallenius was a member of the Freemason Lodge on the Three Griffins in Greifswald.
