Jakob Fitting , from 1886 Ritter von Fitting , (born January 21, 1831 in Tiefenthal (Palatinate) , † May 5, 1898 in Zweibrücken ) was a Bavarian judicial officer and Imperial Councilor of the Crown of Bavaria .

Live and act

He was the son of a farmer and local mayor in Tiefenthal in the Upper Palatinate . Fitting attended the Latin school in Grünstadt , which was run by the Pestalozzi student Heinrich Dittmar , and later the Zweibrücken grammar school . He then studied law in Heidelberg , Munich and Würzburg from 1848 , passed the state examination and entered the judicial service of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1855 .

In 1866 Jakob Fitting was promoted to district judge, and in 1871 to first public prosecutor in Kaiserslautern . In 1875 he became a councilor at the Zweibrücken appellate court , 1878 at the local commercial appeals court , 1879 senior public prosecutor at the higher regional court, in 1890 president of the senate and on April 30, 1896 president of the Palatinate higher regional court in Zweibrücken . He had thus become the chief judicial officer in the Bavarian Rhine Palatinate .

In 1886 the lawyer received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown , with which the personal nobility status was connected, to which he was raised on February 4th of that year. Since then he has called himself Jakob Ritter von Fitting . On October 10, 1897, Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria appointed the judicial specialist to the lifelong Imperial Council of the Crown of Bavaria. He also carried the Knight's Cross, 2nd Class, of the Order of Merit of St. Michael .

Fitting was considered a specialist in civil and administrative law. In his area of ​​office he was particularly involved in the preparations for the general introduction of the civil code , which took place in 1900. As early as 1875 he wrote a comment on the Personal Status Act that was published several times.

According to the obituary, Jakob von Fitting suddenly died late at night over his work. He was buried in the Zweibrücken main cemetery, where his grave complex is one of the most elaborate.

The lawyer was married to Lina Boecking (1840–1923), their son Karl Fitting (1866–1925) was the first public prosecutor.
