Ustad Zaland first learned the classical Indian music of the Patiala School from the famous musician of Charabat , Ustad Ghulam Hossein . Farach Afandi, a scholar from Turkey, friends with Mahmud Tarzi , and the composer Abdul Ghafur Breshna taught Zaland the basics of music based on notes, harmony and polyphony .

One of the notable achievements of Ustad Zaland was the establishment of a 30-piece orchestra. The orchestra was equipped with musical instruments of the cultural area, but also with occidental musical instruments. The number of musicians in the orchestra was given twice.

This is why a considerable number of young Afghan amateurs received foreign scholarships in order to become familiar with the basics of classical music in the West in European countries such as Austria and the former states of the Soviet Union .

Here Zaland, the traditional music in Afghanistan tried in the Radio Kabul later Radio Afghanistan to professionalize integrated music training center. Afghanistan had barely succeeded in establishing a music orchestra based on polyphony and harmony when this project failed because of the outbreak of the Afghanistan conflict and the armed conflict.

From the 1980s onwards, many musicians had to leave the country. Some scholarship holders and musicians with training remained entirely abroad. Even those musicians who, like Babrak Wassa, graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory applied for asylum abroad.

Thanks to many of these musicians, the country's polyphonic music could be continued abroad. Since 2002 these people, music groups and the orchestra as well as the music bands have been trying to rebuild the military band.
