description

Vegetative characteristics

Jaltomata yacheri is up to 1.2 m tall shrub , felt-like hairy its young twigs and green and verkahlen aged, stay green and have a rotating circular cross section. The leaves are in pairs. The leaf blade is somewhat leathery, egg-shaped and is up to 8 cm long and 4.6 cm wide. The top and bottom are covered with simple and branched trichomes . The leaf blade is pointed to the front, the base is rounded and slightly cut off, the margin is entire and ciliate. The leaf stalks are up to 1.8 cm long.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescences are in the armpits or, more rarely, in the branches of the stem and consist of two to three flowers , occasionally four buds are formed. The peduncle becomes 6 to 10 mm long, the pedicels 5 to 10 mm long. Both are round, green and hairy with wool.

The calyx is green in color, measures 18 mm in diameter and is bent back during flowering. It is occupied with triangular calyx tips. The outside is covered with velvety hairs with branched trichomes , the inside is covered with glands. The edge is ciliated. When the fruit is ripe, the calyx is green and measures 18 to 20 mm in diameter. The bright blue-violet crown is urn-shaped, the crown hem is bent back or rolled back. The corolla tube is 8 to 13 mm long. The inside of the corolla tube is hairless, the outside is covered with simple, forked and branched trichomes, especially on the main veins. The base measures 10 to 12 mm in diameter. There are five pits between the widened ends of the stamens , in which a transparent nectar is formed. The coronet is set with five corolla lobes, between which there are five small corolla lobes. Both are triangular in shape and have a ciliate border. The coronet with the corolla lobes has a diameter of 18 to 20 (rarely up to 25) mm, the side facing the flower axis is finely haired with 0.2 to 0.3 mm long, simple trichomes. The top cells of these trichomes are rounded and clearly colored.

The stamens are 13 to 17 mm long. Until the anthers pop open, the stamens lengthen differently within a flower, so that the anthers are initially at different heights. The stamens are purple at the base, otherwise pale green, the lower 20 to 25% are hairy with simple, non-colored trichomes. The anthers are yellow, 2.4 to 3.3 mm long and 5 to 14 mm above the crown. The pale green colored pen is 1.5 to 2 cm long, the scar is little head-shaped and two-lobed, having a diameter of 1.5 mm to 0.84 and is about 8 to 13 mm in front of the crown. The female flower components are hairless, only the stigma is covered with papillae 60 to 90 µm long . The base of the flower arches around the ovary .

Fruits and seeds

The fruits are almost spherical, orange berries with a diameter of up to 11 mm, the style is partly persistent on the fruit. Between 55 and 108 seeds were counted in the berries , these are kidney-shaped.

Occurrence

Jaltomata yacheri is only known from the province of Hualgayoc in the Peruvian department of Cajamarca , where it occurs locally but frequently at altitudes of around 3460 m.

Botanical history and etymology

The type specimen was collected on June 18, 1999 by Thomas Mione , Segundo Leiva Gonzales and Leon Yacher . Thomas Mione and Segundo Leiva Gonzales published the first description of the species in 2007. The species epithet honors Leon Yacher.
