James Orrom (born February 27, 1958 in Kendal , Great Britain ) is a British designer and professor of product design . His design for film cameras and film equipment for the Arri Group has received multiple awards.

Career

Orrom studied from 1977 at London Guildhall University and from 1978 at Middlesex University in London , where he obtained a diploma in 3D design with a focus on furniture design . In 1981 he began studying industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London, where he graduated in 1984 with a Master of Design, M. Des. RCA. In 1984 he moved to Munich and worked at Schlagheck & Schultes Design .

In 1987 he founded the studio for industrial design Umlauf & Orrom with his wife Ulrike Umlauf- Orrom. From 1987 Orrom designed various film cameras and film equipment for the Arri Group (1987-89 the Arri projects were realized together with Reinhard Segers, from 1990 together with Jupp Ostermann). He applied for several patents in this area. He also designed plastic products and furniture series for children.

From 1989 to 1995 he was visiting professor and visiting professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin and in 1999 he was visiting professor at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau . From 2003 to 2019 he was professor for product and furniture design at the Technical University of Rosenheim .

Private

James Orrom is married to Ulrike Umlauf-Orrom . The couple have lived in Dießen am Ammersee since 1990 and have a son (* 1989) and a daughter (* 1994). Orrom is the founder of the Ammersee - Windermere Circle of Friends .
