Ulrike Umlauf-Orrom
Ulrike Umlauf-Orrom (born Umlauf; born December 12, 1953 in Haßlach near Kronach ) is a German glass artist and designer .
Career
After training as a ceramist , Umlauf studied industrial design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences from 1975 and ceramics and glass at the Royal College of Art in London from 1980 . In 1983 she graduated with a Master of Arts, MA RCA.
From 1981 Umlauf designed products for the porcelain manufacturer Hutschenreuther in Selb . From 1983 to 1985 she worked as a product developer for the Theresienthal crystal glass and porcelain manufactory in Zwiesel . In 1987 she designed the Donna hotel catering tableware series for Schönwald . Porcelain products such as the P + S Box pepper and salt shaker and the Viva tableware in 1989 were created for Arzberg .
She has been working as a glass artist since 1982, and has had her own studio since 1986. In 1987 she founded the studio for industrial design Umlauf & Orrom with her husband James Orrom. From 1992 to 1993 she was visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts .
In her retrospective, Ulrike Umlauf-Orrom's glass art is divided into three work phases:
- Work phase I: 1982–1990: Free blown glass vessels
- Work phase II: 1984–1996: sand cast objects
- Work phase III: 1998–2020: objects in fusion technology
Private
Ulrike Umlauf-Orrom is married to James Orrom . The couple have lived in Dießen am Ammersee since 1990 and have a son (* 1989) and a daughter (* 1994).
