James Tatton (born July 20, 1978 in Bicester ) is a former English snooker player from Thame in Oxfordshire . In the 1990s and 2000s he played a total of 4 seasons as a professional on the Snooker Main Tour .

Career

James Tatton showed that he was one of the best English snooker players when he was around 17 when he was one of the last 8 players in the tournament at the English championship . In the following year, he also registered for the professional tournaments and was right at the first tournament, the Asian Classic 1996 , shortly before entering the last 128. The other results were not so good and it was also the last year in that the tournaments were still open to everyone. He did not qualify for the newly introduced Main Tour and therefore had to play the qualifying series, the UK Tour . In three years he reached the round of 32 three times. He could not establish himself in professional snooker. This was also due to his drug addiction. In 2000 he qualified for the Main Tour, but he and his one year younger brother Richard, who had already tried his hand at professional snooker, were sentenced to several months' imprisonment for criminal offenses.

It took James Tatton several years to recover and compete in international amateur championships. In 2004 he reached the finals at both the European and World Championships . In the professional world championship , he survived the pre-qualification and reached round 2 of the amateur qualification. He then tried again on the Challenge Tour 2004/05 to become a professional player. At the first tournament he made it to the semifinals and won the second tournament. He defeated players like Tony Jones , Jimmy Robertson and David Gilbert . Even without winning a match in the other two tournaments, it was enough for 6th place in the tour ranking and thus for the return to the Main Tour. The 2005/06 season was disappointing. At the beginning he met Mark Allen twice and clearly lost both times. At the China Open he just lost 4-5 in the decision frame against Leo Fernandez . His only victory was at the final World Cup with 10: 8 against Gary Wilson . The victory came too late and as number 83 in the world rankings he lost his professional status again. In 2007 he registered again for a PIOS qualification tournament, but did not appear and ended his snooker career.
