James Young (born August 16, 1995 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American basketball player who currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA .

High school

Young attended high schools in Troy and Rochester Hills . As a junior in Troy, Young averaged 25.1 points, 10.5 rebounds , 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in the 2011/12 season . As a senior in Rochester, he scored 27.2 points, 16.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game in 2012/2013.

As a result , Young was selected by ESPN.com as number 3 in the small forward position and eighth player in his class as a five-star recruit in 2013.

college

In his season as a freshman at the University of Kentucky , Young became the second player in the school's history to score 82 threes during the season. In 40 games he averaged 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 32.4 minutes per game.

On April 17, 2014, Young declared that he wanted to play in the NBA. With that he gave up his last three years in college.

NBA

On June 26, 2014, Young was drawn 17th by the Boston Celtics in the 2014 NBA Draft . On July 10, 2014, he signed his rookie contract with the Boston Celtics. After the 2016/17 season , his contract with the Celtics expired and he became a free agent .
