The Jan-Dirk is a coaster that is now berthed as a museum ship in Krautsand am Ruthenstrom . The ship is owned by the association for the preservation of the coaster MS JAN-DIRK e. V. in Drochtersen .
history
The Weselmann-Kümo was built in 1949/1950 under construction number 22 at the Mützelfeldtwerft in Cuxhaven . The restrictions of the Allied Control Council after the Second World War still applied to the construction . The keel was laid in December 1949. The ship was on 29 July 1950 by the stack and was on November 1, 1950, the Stader delivered Reeder Henry Blohm, of the ship in the name of Jürgen baptized . The Stader shipping company Heinrich Nagel & Sohn acquired the ship in 1965 and renamed it Heinrich Nagel the following year . In 1974 it was given its current name Jan-Dirk through another sale . The new owners, Reinhard & Walli von der Fecht from Wischhafen, named the ship after their son.
In March 1981 the ship was sold again, this time to Burgstaaken on Fehmarn. Here the ship was retrofitted with a hatch car. At the beginning of February 1999, the ship was supposed to be sold to Denmark for demolition , but was taken over at short notice by Wischhafen pedagogue and ship lover Ulrich Koch, who wanted to preserve the ship for posterity and in return the association for the preservation of the coaster MS JAN-DIRK e. V. founded.
Museum ship
The association for the preservation of the coaster MS JAN-DIRK eV took over the ship in December 2000 and prepared it as a museum ship. With the exception of the structural changes, the ship is still largely in its original condition. It has been located in Krautsand since June 4, 2005 and is used for events and trips.
Technical specifications
The ship is powered by a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine of the manufacturer Deutz 250 PS power driven, of a propeller effect. A diesel generator is available to generate electricity.
The ship has a hold with a capacity of 609 m³ (for bulk goods). The hatch is 19.5 × 5 meters. It was originally equipped with two masts and two loading booms for cargo handling. In 1975, the then new owners of the ship in Wischhafen had masts and loading booms removed and, for visual reasons, teak cladding was attached to the wheelhouse during the conversion .
