Jan Šimůnek [ ˈjan ˈʃimuːnɛk ] (born February 20, 1987 in Prague ) is a Czech football player . The defender has been under contract with FK Dukla Prague since 2016 .
Club career
Jan Šimůnek began playing football at smaller clubs in Switzerland , where his father Milan Šimůnek , who had played for Slavia Prague until 1991 , ended his career. When his father returned to the Czech Republic and joined Bohemians Prague , Jan Šimůnek also played for the Bohemians. In 1999 the defender moved to Sparta Prague .
At the beginning of 2005 he was transferred from the A-youth to the men's team, made four games in the second division for the B-team in the 2004/05 season and made his debut in the Gambrinus on matchday 26 against FK Mladá Boleslav . League . Sparta became Czech champions that year. Also in the following 2005/06 season he was mostly part of the B team, for which he completed 25 games.
In order to collect match practice, he was awarded in the 2006/07 season to the newly promoted SK Kladno , where he was a regular player and played all games except for the game against Sparta Prague on the first day of the game. In the 2007/08 season he moved to Germany for VfL Wolfsburg for an estimated 4.5 million euros . There he signed a contract until 2011. In his first season the Czech was placed in central defense and reached the UEFA Cup 5th place with the Lower Saxony team. Due to a persistent injury, however, he was unable to make the first team in the first half of the year be used and was rebuilt in eight games in the second team. In the second half of the season he returned as a regular in the Bundesliga team and at the end of the season won the first German championship title in club history with the Wolfsburg team.
For the 2010/11 season, Šimůnek moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . He should help to establish the team after promotion in the Bundesliga. Due to several injuries, however, he could not complete a league game for the Palatinate in his first year. He played his only competitive game for FCK for a long time on October 26, 2010 in the DFB Cup against Arminia Bielefeld (3-0), but he had to be replaced in the 8th minute due to injury. He played his first Bundesliga game after a 16-month injury break on January 21, 2012 in a 0-0 draw against Werder Bremen . On April 5, 2013, he scored his first goal for FCK in a 3-0 win against Cologne , which was also his first professional goal.
For the 2014/15 season, Šimůnek moves to VfL Bochum . He was often injured there and only played 15 competitive games in two years. In the summer of 2016, Bochum separated from Šimůnek, who then moved to FK Dukla Prague .
National team
Jan Šimůnek went through the youth teams of the Czech Republic from the U-16, he skipped the U-18. At the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 he was the captain of the Czech team, which only lost 2-1 to Argentina in the final. From 2008 to 2009, the defender played four times in the Czech national team.
