Jan Broeckx

Jan Broeckx (born April 18, 1961 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian dancer and dance teacher .

Life

Broeckx completed his dance training at the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp, based on the Waganowa method . Among his teachers: Annie Brabant, Marinella Paneda, Yen Stolk, Konstantin Chatilov, Alexander Prokofiev.

At the age of 17 he won the Prix ​​de Lausanne in 1979 . Immediately afterwards he received offers and contracts as principal soloist from 1978 to 1986 with the Ballet von Flanders and from 1981 to 1985 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin . During this period he worked a lot with Peter Schaufuss, Dina Björn (both from the Bournonville School) and Patricia Neary (Balanchine expert). In 1986 he moved to the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, then under the direction of Ronald Hynd. Here he got an insight into the technology of the English school a. a. by working with Peter Wright. In addition, he performed as a guest and star dancer a. a. at the London Festival Ballet , at La Scala in Milan and at Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam as well as at large gala events, etc. a. at the “World Ballet Festival Tokyo”, at the “Gala des Étoiles” in Montreal and the “Nijinsky Gala” in Hamburg. Roland Petit saw him dancing in Berlin in 1982 and asked him to join the Ballet National de Marseille , first as a guest and later as Danseur Étoile . On this occasion he got to know the technique of the French school. During his long-term collaboration with Roland Petit, he interpreted numerous roles in his ballet dances and later, as one of his closest collaborators worldwide, studied the works of Roland Petit, who in 1992 founded the school "l'École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille Roland Petit". Broeckx gave lessons here (boys' class as well as repertoire and pas de deux lessons). His training as a dancer, teacher and choreographic assistant later enabled him to be jury members at international ballet competitions.

Works for film and television as a dancer, but also as a ballet master (among others at La Scala in Milan and at the Zurich Opera House ) as well as his educational activities complement the work of Jan Broeckx, who was named "Artist of the Year" in Munich in 1985.

In choreography and dance he worked alongside Roland Petit a. a. with Rudolf Nurejew , George Balanchine , John Cranko , Hans van Manen , Rudi van Dantzig , Nils Christe , Ronald Hynd , Peter Schaufuss , Jiří Kylián and danced with world stars like Alessandra Ferri , Dominique Khalfouni, Altinai Asylmuratova, Luciane Lacarra, Eva Evdokimova , Evelyne Lacarra Desutter, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Zizi Jeanmaire .

Since October 1, 2010, Jan Broeckx has been head of the Ballet Academy of the Munich University of Music and Theater .
