Jan Hendrik Voet (born March 17, 1793 in Zutphen , province of Gelderland , † June 20, 1852 in Rijswijk , province of Zuid-Holland ) was a Dutch major general and politician who was Minister of War between 1848 and 1849.

Life

Jan Hendrik Voet came from an originally German family of officers and was the son of Major General Johann Heinrich Voet, who was among other things director of the Artillery and Pioneer School in Delft . He also trained as an officer and took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 . He was honored for his services in the siege of the citadel of Antwerp in 1830. After his promotion to colonel of the infantry he was between March 1, 1842 and June 1, 1845 commander of the Grenadier and Jägerregiment stationed in The Hague . After he was promoted to major general in 1845 , he was from June 1, 1845 to May 22, 1848 as commander of the 2nd Brigade, the 1st Infantry Brigade and acting commander of the provincial command of the province of Noord-Brabant .

On May 22, 1848, Voet took over the office of Minister of War (Minister van Oorlog) from Charles Nepveu in the Schimmelpenninck cabinet and held this ministerial office until November 21, 1848. He served in the subsequent De Kempenaer / Donker Curtius cabinet between November 21, 1848 and on November 1, 1849 still as Minister of War.
