Jan Alexander Luley (born June 9, 1971 in Bad Hersfeld ) is a German jazz, blues and gospel pianist , singer and composer.

Jan Luley is related to the Frankfurt folk actor Carl Luley . He began taking classical piano lessons at the age of seven and became interested in blues and jazz at an early age . Jan Luley made his first public appearances at the age of 13 and began a few years later as a pianist in his father's New Orleans and Dixieland band, The Hot Swing Company . After graduating from high school, he studied chemistry for a year at the Philipps University in Marburg . From 1992 to 1997 he studied jazz, rock and pop with a major in piano at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem, Holland . Since 1994, international appearances followed as accompanists of various singers from the USA such as Angela Brown , Janice Harrington , John Boutté and others. From 1999 to 2009 Jan Luley was the pianist of the renowned Frankfurt Barrelhouse Jazz Band . Since then he has played mostly solo and in a classical piano trio. In addition to his work as a pianist and composer in various projects between traditional and contemporary jazz and blues, he is also active in the areas of music production (founded his own record label Luleymusic Records in 2004) and event management. Together with his wife Eda Luley-Raufeisen, he runs the advertising agency Luley's . Today Luley lives in the community of Hauneck near Bad Hersfeld .

Luley's first interest was blues and boogie woogie , later he turned to swing and mainstream . During his studies at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem , which focused on modern, contemporary jazz, his interest in music from New Orleans and Creole music grew . He learned from musicians like Larry Sieberth and Davell Crawford , played with jazz greats like Leroy Jones , Wycliffe Gordon , Wynard Harper , Gene Conners , John Allred and many others. Jan Luley's pianistic style is broad between traditional and modern jazz styles, Creole and Latin jazz , blues, boogie woogie, gospel , soul and funk .
