Jan Michalski (born December 27, 1962 in Lubań ) is a Polish politician ( PO ) and sports official . From 2011 to 2015 he was Senator of the 8th electoral term of the Senate of the Republic of Poland .

Live and act

Jan Michalski grew up with his parents on their grandparents' farm in Pisarzowice . After attending elementary school and high school in Lubań, he began studying at the Technical University of Wroclaw . During his studies he was active in student self-administration. In 1989 he completed his studies there at the Institute for Information Systems of the Faculty of Electronics. From 1990 he then worked as a toy wholesaler in Zgorzelec for 15 years .

Between 1998 and 2002 Michalski was a member of the Zgorzelec City Council. He then took over the position of President of the Centrum Sportowo-Rekreacyjne in Zgorzelec until 2006 . In 2006 he ran unsuccessfully for the powiatrat of the powiat Zgorzelecki and was then appointed deputy starost of the powiat Zgorzelecki, a position he held until 2008. In 2008 Michalski was appointed CEO of KKS Turów Zgorzelec SA , to which the professional basketball team PGE Turów Zgorzelec belonged. In 2011 he resigned from this post to focus on the general election.

In the 2011 parliamentary election , Michalski stood as a candidate for Platforma Obywatelska for a mandate for the Senate of the Republic of Poland in constituency No. 1 (Powiate Bolesławiecki , Lubański , Lwówecki and Zgorzelecki). There he prevailed with 33,641 (35.55%) of the valid votes cast against five other candidates, including Jerzy Zieliński , the former mayor of Lubań. In the 2015 parliamentary election he tried to defend his mandate, but was defeated by the former senator of the VI with 31,248 (33.10%) of the valid votes cast . Election period (2005–2007) Rafał Ślusarz (34,858 votes, 36.93%).

At the end of 2015, he was reappointed CEO of KKS Turów Zgorzelec SA and resigned from this position in September 2017. In August the association filed for bankruptcy and was then wound up .

In 2018, Michalski ran for a seat in the Sejmik of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in the local government elections . He stood for the NPP Platforma.Nowoczesna Koalicja Obywatelska , an electoral alliance consisting of the Platforma Obywatelska and the Nowoczesna , but missed a place in the Sejmik.
