Jan Rudolph Slotemaker de Bruine (born May 6, 1869 in Sliedrecht , † May 1, 1941 in Wassenaar ) was a Dutch Reformed theologian and politician ( CHU ).

Life

Jan Rudolph Slotemaker de Bruine was born on May 6, 1869 in Sliedrecht. Ordained pastor in 1894 , he worked in Utrecht from 1907 . He became professor of practical and systematic theology at the local university in 1916. He campaigned for a new order of the church constitution of 1816/1852 in a Presbyterian sense. He also devoted himself to social issues, during a railroad strike in 1903 he saw that the church had important social responsibilities. Since then he has also participated in politics. Installed as Minister of Labor in 1926, he became Minister of Social Affairs in 1933 and Minister of Education in 1935. On May 1, 1941, de Slotemaker de Bruine died in Wassenaar.
