Janikowo ( German Amsee ) is a town in the powiat Inowrocławski of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 13,300 inhabitants.

Janikowo is located about 40 kilometers south of Bydgoszcz (Bromberg) and 45 kilometers southwest of Toruń (Thorn) . The western border of the city is the Jezioro Pakoskie.
history
The first written mention of the place comes from the 15th century.
During the second partition of Poland , the place came under Prussian rule. Between 1872 and 1873 the railway line from Poznan to Bydgoszcz was built and a stop called Amsee was set up, and in 1875 a sugar factory was built. When Janikowo became an independent municipality after the turn of the century (previously it belonged to Kołuda Mała), it was officially given the German name Amsee .
After the First World War , Janikowo became part of the Second Polish Republic in 1918 . During the Second World War , the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht from 1939–45 . After the founding of the People's Republic of Poland , a Natron Kombinat (Kombinat sodowy ) was established in 1953 , which was of great importance for the development of the settlement. Due to the strong increase in the number of inhabitants, Janikowo received city rights in 1962 .

About 56 people lived in the village between 1880 and 1882. In 1962 the place had about 4,300 inhabitants.

West of Jezioro Pakoskie is the province road 255, which leads from Strzelno to Pakość . The A2 autostrada runs about 60 kilometers south of Janikowo.
The city has its own train station on the Poznań – Toruń railway line . There are direct connections u. a. to Toruń and Gniezno .
The closest international airport is Ignacy Jan Paderewski Airport Bydgoszcz , which is about 40 kilometers north.
