history

Jankowice was founded at the beginning of the 15th century under Magdeburg law , which emerges from a legal dispute of 1402. The village was initially owned by the Polish nobility . Documents from the 16th century indicate the presence of a mill, a blacksmith's shop and an inn. At the end of the 17th century, the village also had a windmill and a chapel.

From 1783 on Jankowice belonged to the Posen district in Prussia , from 1815 to 1918 to the Posen province in the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1858 Rudolf Palm was the owner. In 1899 another chapel was founded in Jankowice and Pope Leo XIII. granted the right to have masses read in it.

From 1918 to 1939 Jankowice was part of the Second Polish Republic .

In 1935 Jankowice became part of Tarnowo Podgórne. At that time it was owned by Konstanty Dziewulski, chairman of the Christian National Workers' Party (Chrześcijańsko-Narodowe Stronnictwo Rolnicze).

From 1939 to 1945 Jankowice belonged to the Reichsgau Wartheland , from 1945 to 1989 to the People's Republic of Poland .

The castle in Jankowice

The castle in Jankowice was built under the influence of Romanticism with Ionic columns and balustrade around 1800 and the reconstruction was carried out in 1803 on behalf of Wawrzyńc Engestrӧm, a former Swedish envoy to King Stanislaus II August Poniatowski .

Johannesbach Castle (Pałac w Jankowicach).

In the middle of the 19th century the castle was owned by the German entrepreneur Rudolf Palm, who sold it to the German lieutenant August Matthes. During this time the castle was expanded, large windows were added, a winter garden was added and a brick factory was nearby. Johannesbach Castle belonged to the Jankowice Manor, which was a well-managed agricultural business in the Poznan-West district . In 1897, Matthes sold the estate and castle to the Polish Count von Kwilecki, who bought it for his son Stefan Teodor. On behalf of Stefan Kwilecki, Roger Sławski rebuilt the castle in 1912 and added side wings.

Between the world wars, Charles de Gaulle was one of the castle's guests.

The castle has been home to a music school since September 2017.

economy

The village has undergone significant economic development since 1989 and is home to a Lidl store and branches of Mondelēz International and Brenntag .
