Janowiec Wielkopolski ( German Janowitz , 1939–45 Jannowitz ) is a city in Poland in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 9100 inhabitants and is located on the Welna, a right tributary of the Warta .

history

town hall

The first written mention of the place comes from 1295 as Janow Młyn . In the document, the Wielkopolska Duke Przemysław II allows the knight Wojciech , Jan's son, to build the settlement under German law. In 1458 Janowiec Wielkopolski received town charter .

During the Second Partition of Poland , the city came to Prussia in 1793 and to the Duchy of Warsaw in 1807 as a result of the Tilsit Peace . From the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to the Wielkopolska uprising in 1918/19, Janowitz was again part of Prussia.

During the Second World War Janowiec was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from 1939–45 . The occupation ended in January 1945.

local community

The town and 22 villages with school boards belong to the town and country municipality (gmina miejsko-wiejska) Janowiec Wielkopolski.

traffic

The city is located away from national or voivodeship roads. Europastraße 261 , which is also Landesstraße 5, runs about 12 kilometers to the east .

Janowiec has a train station on the Oleśnica – Chojnice railway line , but passenger traffic has ceased and another was in the Gącz district.

The closest two international airports are Poznan-Ławica Airport in the south-west and Ignacy Jan Paderewski Airport in Bydgoszcz in the north-west. Both are about 50 kilometers from Janowiec Wielkopolski.
