Jari , officially Portuguese Município de Jari , is a municipality in the west of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul . The population was estimated as of July 1, 2019 at 3503 inhabitants, who live in a municipal area of around 856.4 km² and are called Jarienses ( jarienses ). It ranks 334th out of 497 municipalities in the state.
The place name comes from the Tupi language and roughly means "little stream". The community used to be a district of São Pedro do Sul , in which German, Polish, Russian and some Italian people had settled.
