Jaroslav Kožešník

Jaroslav Kožešník (born June 8, 1907 in Kněžice, Okres Jihlava (then: Iglau district), † June 26, 1985 in Prague ) was a Czech mathematician , cyberneticist and university professor .

Life

Kožešník graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Technical University in Prague . He then worked as a scientific expert on cybernetics and mechanization .

In 1946 Kožešník joined the Škoda Research Department in Pilsen . He was a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party and joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KPČ) in 1948 . Various positions in research and development followed. He published many specialist articles. 1953 Kožešník became a corresponding member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences . In 1955 he became a professor at the Technical University in Prague.

In 1959 Kožešník became director of the Institute for Information Theory and Automation and remained so until his death. In 1960 he became a real member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. 1961–1970 he was vice chairman and 1970–1980 chairman of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In 1971 he became a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . For this purpose, he was the authorized representative of the ČSSR at the United Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna near Moscow . He was editor-in-chief of the magazine Cybernetika .

After the Prague Spring 1968 with the invasion of the Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact states and subsequent normalization , Kožešník became a member of the Lower House of the Federation Assembly in the 1969 federalized Czechoslovakia, with confirmation in the following elections (until 1981). In 1970 he was co-opted as a member of the Central Committee of the KPČ and took part in the 14th and 15th party congresses.
