Javier Álvarez (athlete)
Javier Álvarez ( Javier Álvarez Salgado ; born December 18, 1943 in Vigo ) is a former Spanish long-distance and obstacle runner .
He won over 3000 m obstacle at the Mediterranean Games in 1967 and was eleventh at the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968 .
At the end of 1968 he won the San Silvestre Vallecana . In 1969 he won silver over 3000 m at the European Indoor Games in Belgrade , and in 1970 at the follow-up event, the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Vienna , bronze over the same distance.
In 1971 he was fifth over 5000 m at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki and won double gold over 5000 m and 10,000 m at the Mediterranean Games . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was tenth over 5000 m and twelfth over 10,000 m.
He was five times Spanish champion over 5000 m (1966–1968, 1972, 1973) and twice over 3000 m obstacle (1965, 1966) and in the 30 km road run (1971, 1972). In total, he set four national records over 5000 m, one over 10,000 m and three over 3000 m indoors and two outdoors.
