Jay Caufield (born July 17, 1960 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a former American ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1984 to 1994 for the New York Rangers , Minnesota North Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, among others Has.

Career

Jay Caufield initially played American football at the University of North Dakota from 1980 to 1985 . He then decided, however, for a career as an ice hockey player, but came in the 1984/85 season, but only to one game for the ice hockey team of his university in the National Collegiate Athletic Association for use. On October 8, 1985, the winger signed a contract as a free agent with the New York Rangers , for which he scored two goals and an assist in a total of 16 games in the National Hockey League in the 1986/87 season . The rest of the time in the Rangers franchise , however, he spent with their farm teams New Haven Nighthawks from the American Hockey League and Toledo Goaldiggers and Flint Spirits from the International Hockey League .

On October 8, 1987, Caufield was given to the Minnesota North Stars along with Dave Gagner in exchange for Jari Grönstrand and Paul Boutilier . In the 1987/88 season, however, he was only in one game for Minnesota in the NHL on the ice, while he spent the rest of the season with their IHL farm team Kalamazoo Wings . From 1988 to 1993 the American played for the Pittsburgh Penguins , with whom he won the prestigious Stanley Cup in the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons . During his time with the Penguins he also played three times for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the IHL. In the 1993/94 season he played again for his ex-team Kalamazoo Wings in the IHL before ending his career at the age of 34.
