Jeżów Sudecki (German Grunau ) is a village in the powiat Jeleniogórski of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with a little over 7250 inhabitants. The village is located three kilometers north of the city of Jelenia Góra ( Deer Mountain ).
history
Jeżów Sudecki was originally a place of gold and silver digging, but ore mining was stopped after the Thirty Years War . Crafts and handicrafts, weaving and agriculture took their place. The place was best known for the Grunau gliding school founded in 1921 , after which the Grunau baby is named. Today the place lives mainly from tourism.

The rural community (gmina wiejska) Jeżów Sudecki has an area of 94.38 km². Seven other villages with school administration offices belong to the community. Jeżów Sudecki has partnerships with the municipality of Vierkirchen in Oberlausitz (Germany) and the municipality of Paseky nad Jizerou in the Czech Republic.
Sightseeing and tourism
The Jeżów Sudecki glider airfield is still in use today, but is no longer as important as it used to be.
