Jean-Charles Biaudet

Jean-Charles Biaudet (born February 19, 1910 in Montreux ; † August 7, 2000 in Cully ; resident in Rolle ) was a Swiss political scientist and historian .

Life

Until 1930 Biaudet lived in Algeria and Paris . From 1932 to 1933 he worked as a teacher at the renowned Le Rosey Institute in Rolle . Then studied political science at the University of Lausanne , concluded in 1936 with the licentiate , and doctorate in 1940. He worked 1943-1950 as an archivist at the State Archives of the Canton of Vaud and was from 1950 to 1955 Director of the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne .

From 1945 he taught first as a private lecturer , from 1955 as an associate professor and from 1961 to 1979 as a full professor of modern and contemporary history at the University of Lausanne. From 1960 to 1964 Biaudet was President of the Department of Social and Political Sciences, from 1964 to 1966 Dean of the Faculty of Phil. I and from 1968 to 1972 Vice Rector .

From 1949 to 1963 he was editor of the Swiss History Journal . Between 1959 and 1963 he was a member of Pro Helvetia , from 1964 to 1976 a member of the Research Council and from 1967 to 1980 a member of the International Committee for Historical Studies . In his work, Biaudet mainly dealt with the political history of Switzerland in the 19th century and that of the canton of Vaud. Among other things, he was co-editor of the Correspondance de Frédéric César de la Harpe . He was also from 1965 to 1977 in the municipal council of Chexbres and was made an honorary citizen in this municipality in 1990 .
