Jean-Eugène Buland (* 1852 in Paris , † 1926 in Charly-sur-Marne , Département Aisne ) was a French painter.

Life

Like his younger brother Jean-Émile (1857–1938), Jean-Eugène Buland attended the École des Beaux-Arts (EBA). Almost at the same time he came to the studio of his teacher Alexandre Cabanel .

Buland was soon able to break away from the academic art of his teacher Alexandre Cabanel and found his own style in symbolism in early works (often scenes from antiquity) . Buland experienced his artistic as well as economic breakthrough in his later oeuvre, in which mostly realistic scenes of everyday life predominated ( genre painting ).
