Jean Morax

Jean Morax (born September 16, 1869 in Morges ; † May 11, 1939 there , entitled to live in Mex ) was a Swiss painter .

Life

Victor Morax grew up with his brothers René and Victor as the son of a canton doctor. He completed his painting training in Geneva with Edouard Castres and continued his education in Paris from 1889 .

His style was shaped by the Nabis . Morax exhibited his works at the national exhibition in Geneva in 1896, at the 1900 world exhibition in Paris (winner of the bronze medal) and in Munich in 1905 . In 1897 he came second behind Ferdinand Hodler in a competition for the painting of the weapons hall of the Landesmuseum in Zurich .

In 1908 he and his brother René opened the Théâtre du Jorat in Mézières in the canton of Vaud and designed its costumes, décor and advertising posters. Including for screenings such as Henriette (1908), Tell (1914), Le roi David (1921) or La Belle de Moudon (1931). Morax also designed the costumes for the big folk festival Fête des Vignerons in Vevey in 1905 .
