Adriana Johanna Wilhelmina (Jeanne) Bieruma Oosting (born February 5, 1898 in Leeuwarden , † July 14, 1994 in Almen ) was a Dutch painter , graphic artist and lithographer .

Life

Jeanne Oosting was born in Leeuwarden as the daughter of a respected Frisian family. She received her first painting lessons at the age of 16, four years later she took lessons from Paul Bodifée to study nature. She attended a girls' boarding school in Bloemendaal , where she learned watercolor drawing from Frits Grabijn . Then she attended a course at the arts and crafts school in Haarlem. Then she went to The Hague to take lessons from Albert Roelofs , son of the Hague painter Willem Roelofs , and a year later from Willem van Konijnenburg .

At the suggestion of the sculptor Charlotte van Pallandt , she traveled to Paris in 1929, where she spent a total of eleven years. There she met Conrad Kickert , Wim Oepts , Mena Loopuyt and Gerard Hordijk . She took temporary lessons from André Lhote and model drawing lessons from Mariette Lydis . A visit to Stanley William Hayter's studio in Montparnasse , where she learned everything about etching and all sorts of new printing techniques, was crucial for her later graphic work . The approaching war forced her to leave Paris in the spring of 1940. She temporarily moved to the south of France but then managed to return to the Netherlands, where she settled in Amsterdam. She lived there until 1944, but then fled the starvation winter and temporarily moved to Lauswolt. After the war she moved into a building on the Herengracht, which she had to leave in 1960. In 1968 she bought a building in Amsterdam with a view of the Oosterpark , where she painted the immediate surroundings until the 1990s, the flowers, objects from her house, the large garden in Almen, but above all the Oosterpark itself, which she created through her Window could see.
