Every year in June there is a German television film by director Markus O. Rosenmüller , which was first broadcast on Arte on August 9, 2013 .

action

Starting in 1971, the publishing employee Elke from West Germany and the carpenter Gregor from East Germany meet annually in June in the GDR or in Prague. Your love story is accompanied by the social upheavals in the two German states. Elke tells him that she is ready for him to leave her husband. She is all the more dismayed when he said goodbye to her at the first meeting after the fall of the Berlin Wall , as he and his wife were going to emigrate to Canada in order to realize the decades-long dreams of freedom of their time in the GDR.

Four years later, the two meet again. Elke is now a widow and Gregor was left in Canada by his wife for another man, which was one of the reasons for him to return home. Elke indicates to him that she has another acquaintance and makes a meeting point for the next year. This suggests that even after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the loss of their spouses, the pair of lovers will not find each other and will stick to the annual meeting.

Gregor learns from the Stasi records authority that the relationship has been spied on by his friend Frank . It remains to be seen whether the latter protected the relationship as he claims. Gregor is aware, however, that the Stasi had never caused him any problems, which he would have expected in the event of a spying.

background

The plot structure resembles that of the successful US comedy film Next Year, same time from 1978. The film was shot from August 14, 2012 to September 14, 2012.

Reviews

“In contrast to the frame, however, the love story is sharply drawn. She manages to touch the audience and take them on a long journey through time. Katharina Wackernagel is always believable: whether in her mid-twenties or later, years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, as a mature woman. And Peter Schneider ( The Sum of My Individual Parts ) is a sensation as a hands-on carpenter from the East. The two give Gregor and Elke that force and closeness to life that the rest of the film lacks. "

“Katharina Wackernagel only plays her frequent 'little soul' role at first glance. So nuanced and with such restrained eye play (she 'just' has to use her charismatic radiance) has not been seen for a long time. And after this Arte / MDR coproduction and the RB 'Tatort - He will kill' face, Arthaus face Peter Schneider will be more visible for television. "

- Rainer Tittelbach : Tittelbach.tv

"Probably the most beautiful film on the Day of German Unity ... We love each other because we keep separating and rarely see each other - the strong ARD production 'Every year in June' holds out its idea to a consistent end."

- Joachim Hirzel : Focus

"As a result, the film has no chance at all of a credible dynamic development in terms of its structure, but shows itself as a brittle structure of script ideas that have been all too carefully dressed in a love story with candy-like features."

- Harald Keller : Frankfurter Rundschau
