Jeffrey Dessner (born April 16, 1977 in Skokie , Illinois ) is a retired American ice hockey player . For the Iserlohn Roosters and the Kölner Haie he played one year each in the German Ice Hockey League . Before that, he was active for a year in the American Hockey League and ECHL .
Career
Jeff Dessner began his career in 1997 at the University of Wisconsin – Madison , where he played for the Wisconsin Badgers in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's gaming operations . In his first year Dessner and his team won the championship of the NCAA Conference Western Collegiate Hockey Association . In 1996 he was selected in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers in 185th place.
In 2001 Dessner was transferred to the Atlanta Thrashers and played for their two farm teams . These were the Greenville Grrrowl from the ECHL and the Chicago Wolves from the American Hockey League .
For the 2002/03 season he signed a trial contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . After a short test phase, he received a contract until the end of the season. He narrowly missed the playoffs with the Sauerland and then moved to the Kölner Haien . With the sharks he was eliminated after six games in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. After the season the defender ended his career.
Others
During his time in Iserlohn, Dessner was nicknamed "Diesel" . This is based on an incident shortly after his arrival in Waldstadt, when he mistakenly filled his new car with diesel instead of the required gasoline , so that the engine was damaged and Dessner was late for training.
