Jeff Donnell
Jeff Donnell (* 10. July 1921 in South Windham , Maine as Jean Marie Donnell ; † 11. April 1988 in Hollywood , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .
Career
Before Donnell graduated from Leland Powers Drama School in Boston in 1938, she attended Towson High School. She later graduated from the Yale School of Drama .
In 1942 she received a studio contract with Columbia Pictures . That same year, Jeff Donnell made her film debut in My Sister Ellen , opposite Rosalind Russell . In the following years she played alongside world stars such as Humphrey Bogart , Cary Grant or Anne Baxter , although she was mostly only a supporting actress in larger Hollywood productions.
Since the late 1950s, the actress has appeared almost exclusively in television productions, including Mr. Ed , Cannon , Dr. med. Marcus Welby and Fantasy Island . She played her last role in the soap opera General Hospital , where she played the housekeeper Stella Fields from 1980 until her death in 1988 .
Private life
Jeff Donnell had been married four times, including from 1954 to 1956 to actor Aldo Ray . Her first marriage to William Anderson (1940 to 1953) had two children, Michael and Sarah Jane.
She gave herself her nickname "Jeff" as a child. It comes from the comic series Mutt and Jeff .
Donnell died suddenly of heart failure .
