Jeffrey Arnold "Jeff" Moss (* 19th June 1942 in New York City , New York ; † 24. September 1998 ) was an American screenwriter , film and television composer who by his work on Sesame Street and the Muppets known was.

Life

Moss was the son of actor Arnold Moss was born, grew up in Manhattan and attended by the private school Browning School the Princeton University . After graduating in 1963, he took a job as a production assistant on the children's show Captain Kangaroo . In the meantime he was drafted into the United States Army , after completing his military service he returned to Captain Kangaroo , but now as an author. In 1969 he was part of Jim Henson's team , who had just created Sesame Street . Moss contributed the characters of the Cookie Monster and Oscars . He also wrote many songs of Sesame Street, including rubber ducks Ernie; The original English title Rubber Duckie reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970 . Moss remained with the children's program until his death, for which he was awarded a total of fourteen Emmys . During that time he wrote over a dozen Sesame Street children's books. He also composed the score for The Muppets Conquer Manhattan , for which he was nominated for an Oscar in 1985 .

Moss died at the age of 56 from complications from colon cancer that he had kept secret from his colleagues for years.
